Mark your Calendar 5th Annual Crafted With Love Open House October 12

Saturday October 12th               1pm to 4pm   We are inviting home party consultants, crafters, and individuals with homemade items to set up a booth in our community.  There is no set booth fee.  We simply request that a donation be made for our Operation Dream Bulder Program fund (fulfilling dreams for Residents and Associates at Windsor Manor)  This event is open to the public and is a great way to kick off holiday shopping!   Space is limited – contact Bethany or Hollie at 319-472-2060 or bethany.

Cardboard Boat Races set for July 27

Cardboard boating: Sophia Vasquez in replica USS Keokuk, a 2-turreted ironclad steamship from 1862. On Saturday, July 27, The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its annual Cardboard Boat Races at the Vinton Community Swimming Pool. Boats must be made entirely out of cardboard and duct tape and are eligible to compete in one of the following race categories: 13 & Under (single-person boat), 14 & up (single person boat), and the Doubles Competition (two person boat - all ages welcome!).

Grandstand events to include car, trailer races and demo derby

Cars will race twice this week at the Benton County Fairgrounds. The popular and exciting trailer races will also return this week during the Benton County Fair. And, of course, the annual Jerry Stanley Memorial Demolition Derby takes place on its customary Saturday night. Admission each night is $10 for adults; $4 for kids. Business Camp at Iowa Braille School to help benefit Friends of the Shelter

The Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School is helping the shelter this week, but in order to do so, they need everyone's help! Business Camp at Iowa Braille School The last of three local summer school programs in Vinton for children who are blind or visually impaired will be held at the Iowa Braille School, during the week of July 21 – 26.

Farm Bureau Cook-off seeks participants; winners to advance to Iowa State Fair

An outdoor cooking contest designed to promote Iowa meat is being planned by the Benton County Farm Bureau. Contest coordinator, Bill Newton says, “You don't have to be an expert chef to participate; you just need to enjoy cooking outdoors with quality Iowa meat.” The 6th Annual Cookout Contest will be held on Saturday July 27th during the Benton County Fair in Vinton.

Annual Lutheran Home Ice Cream Social set for Aug. 4

The Vinton Lutheran Home Auxiliary will be hosting its Annual Ice Cream Social on Sunday Aug. 4, at the Lutheran Home in Vinton, from 2-4 p.m.    There will be delicious homemade pies and desserts,miniature horse and buggy rides, a kiddie train, face painting, grab bags, Bake Sale and much more.   Come and enjoy relaxing music by Don Anders and Stuart Gulick from 2:00 - 3:00 and The Classic Deli very Band from 3:00 - 4:00.
